Service Opportunities

The Village of Oak Park, with support from Housing Forward and Oak Park Homelessness Coalition, is currently seeking volunteers interested in supporting warming center operations during extended periods of extreme cold. 

The warming center, located at Grace Episcopal, 924 Lake St. in Oak Park, is activated when temperatures are forecasted to reach low temperatures, for four or more hours, between 9:00 AM and 9:00 PM on a given day.  

• The Village monitors the weather forecast daily and volunteers will be notified of a potential activation and need for volunteers approximately 72 hours prior to opening. 

• At least 24 hours prior to opening, the Village will confirm with volunteers whether or not the activation will occur.

• We are looking for two-hour time commitments per shift, but three to four hours is preferred. 

• All volunteers will receive training.
